Blending tradition with modernity
The new building for Wijnen Le Compte combines a wine and champagne shop on the ground floor with two apartments above, embodying the philosophy "Form follows identity." The design reflects the building's purpose, creating a sparkling identity that enriches the city and enhances the wine buying experience.
A landmark for Aalst
The gleaming champagne-coloured façade, adorned with sleek metal slats, draws inspiration from the fluid, graceful contours of wine and champagne bottles. Its luminous hue shimmers brilliantly under sunlight, creating a striking visual contrast, while overcast weather softens its appearance, rendering the façade more subdued and harmonized with the surrounding atmosphere. The shop acts as a landmark for the Aalst city ring and boasts a gracefully curved glass façade, echoing the silhouette of a bottle, while the apartment façades are elegantly clad in champagne-toned aluminum panels.
Beyond retail: A social experience
The ground-floor shop is not only a retail space but also a social hub for wine and champagne tastings and receptions for the nearby cemetery. The project aims to blend innovation with tradition, catering to both professional and private clients with an expanded selection of wines, champagnes, spirits, and tailored experiences such as corporate gifts and tastings.
Crafting excellence through collaboration
The collaboration with architect Diederik Vertongen and interior specialists has resulted in a flagship store that is eye-catching, luxurious, and meaningful.
A global vision with local roots
With over 40 years in the wine industry, the revamped store also features an updated online presence, offering global shipping and reinforcing Wijnen Le Compte's leadership in Belgian wines. This new chapter is seen as an investment in a sustainable, customer-focused future, making the building a beacon of elegance and ambition.
